Behaviour Agreement Policy

Last updated: 21 October 2025

1. Purpose

  • This Behaviour Agreement Policy outlines the shared expectations between BoboKids Art Club, participating children, and their parents or carers.

  • Its purpose is to promote mutual respect, cooperation, and a positive environment where creativity and learning can flourish safely.

2. Principles

  • Everyone at BoboKids Art Club has the right to feel safe, valued, and respected.

  • Kindness, fairness, and understanding guide all interactions.

  • Behaviour management is based on positive reinforcement, clear communication, and consistency.

  • The agreement recognises that effective behaviour support depends on collaboration between children, parents/carers, and staff.

3. Behaviour Expectation

Children agree to:

  • Be kind, respectful, and considerate towards others.
Listen carefully and follow instructions from adults.

  • Take care of materials, artwork, and equipment.

  • Keep hands and feet to themselves; no rough play or unsafe behaviour.

  • Ask for help or a break if feeling upset, frustrated, or overwhelmed.

  • Accept responsibility for their actions and try to make amends where necessary.

Parents and Carers agree to:

  • Support the club’s rules and reinforce positive behaviour at home.

  • Communicate openly with staff about any needs or concerns that may affect their child’s participation or behaviour.

  • Treat staff, volunteers, and other families with courtesy and respect.

  • Collect their child promptly at the end of each session.

  • Model calm and respectful behaviour, especially during discussions about incidents or concerns.

  • Understand that repeated unsafe or disruptive behaviour may lead to a review of their child’s place in the club.

Staff and Volunteers agree to:

  • Model respectful, inclusive, and calm behaviour at all times.

  • Provide clear and consistent boundaries appropriate to children’s age and understanding.

  • Promote positive behaviour through praise, encouragement, and fair consequences.

  • Never shout at, humiliate, or physically discipline a child.

  • Ensure children are listened to and treated fairly.

  • Record and report any significant behaviour concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

4. Procedures for Managing Behaviour

  • Reminder: A calm verbal reminder about expected behaviour.

  • Pause or redirection: The child is given time to reflect or move to a quieter space.

  • Discussion: The behaviour is discussed respectfully to help the child understand the impact.

  • Parental communication: Parents are informed if behaviour continues or causes concern.
Review: If needed, an individual plan or behaviour agreement may be developed in partnership with parents.

Persistent or serious incidents (e.g. bullying, aggression, refusal to follow safety rules) may lead to temporary suspension or exclusion to ensure the wellbeing of all participants.

5. Inclusion and Additional Needs

  • BoboKids Art Club values inclusion and welcomes children of all abilities.
However, as the club is facilitated by a single practitioner, we are only able to provide general supervision and cannot offer one-to-one or specialist support.

  • Parents and carers are encouraged to share any relevant information about their child’s needs before joining.
Where additional support is required to ensure a child’s full participation and safety, we are happy to welcome a parent, carer, or personal assistant to accompany the child during sessions.

  • Reasonable adjustments will be made where possible within the limits of the setting and staffing.

6. Agreement

  • By attending BoboKids Art Club, all parties acknowledge and agree to follow this Behaviour Agreement Policy.

  • Parents and children may also be asked to sign a summary version of this agreement at registration.

7. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if safeguarding guidance changes.
