  • Warm-up:

    • Quick abstract sketches: paint 3 fast swatches in colours that feel calm, angry, joyful. Share and compare.

    Exploration:

    • Experiment with inks, acrylics, and pastels.

    • Layer washes and bold marks to test transparency vs opacity.

    • Create a colour “energy map” on large paper.

    Concept:

    • Colour as a language of mood and movement.

    • Discuss how artists like Wassily Kandinsky or Helen Frankenthaler used colour to evoke music and emotion.

    Outcome:

Participants reconnect with colour as an emotional tool, learning to trust instinctive mark-making.

  • Warm-up:

    • “Movement Line”: Paint to music (choose 3 tracks — slow, upbeat, chaotic). Notice how brushstrokes change.

    Exploration:

    • Use large brushes, sponges, and improvised tools (cardboard, sticks).

    • Layer colours in gestural sweeps.

    • Explore contrast: fluid washes vs sharp accents.

    Concept:

    • Colour in rhythm with the body.

    • Artist link: Jackson Pollock (action painting) and Sam Gilliam (draped colour movement).

    Outcome:

Participants explore body–art connection, learning to see colour as physical energy.

  • Warm-up:

    • Quick collage challenge: tear coloured papers, arrange them by “loudest” to “softest.”

    Exploration:

    • Combine acrylic, pastel, collage, fabric, and texture mediums.

    • Work with layering and scraping back.

    • Focus on transitions — how one colour/texture shifts into another.

    Concept:

    • Depth comes from contrast, layering, and surface play.

    • Artist link: Anselm Kiefer (material depth) and Robert Rauschenberg (combine painting).

    Outcome:

Participants learn to push materials beyond paint, exploring how colour interacts with texture and form.

  • Warm-up:

    • Guided reflection: “What colour describes your week? Your inner voice today?”

    Exploration:

    • Create a final large-scale mixed-media piece.

    • Encourage symbolic use of colour — personal memories, cultural references, or intuitive expression.

    • Optional: Incorporate text, photography, or found objects.

    Concept:

    • Colour as storytelling and identity.

    • Artist link: Sonia Delaunay (colour + rhythm of life) and Mark Rothko (emotional immersion).

    Outcome:

Participants create a resolved, deeply personal work that embodies their own colour journey, leaving with confidence in their expressive voice.
